Intellectual Activities for Gay People
By Andy Heath
"Oh, you play video games," I said with a fake smile on my face as I nodded my head trying (a little) to hide my condescension. Certainly condescension is not good and I would not say there is anything terribly wrong with video games. But let's be very clear about something; gays and lesbians have an extremely important duty to contribute a great deal to the world, and we cannot spend out lives playing silly, childish games. We need to pursue the cerebral tasks of the world.
You need to read, and you need to write, and paint, and compose and sing music, and you need to dance, and work out, and you need to engage in high levels of business. You need to pursue your jobs and make them better. You need to find ways to improve your life and the lives of others. You need to volunteer. We need to do all these things because our time on this planet is short and we have the daunting responsibility to help straight people see how important we are. The only way to do this is to be the best people we can be.
There is nothing wrong with playing video games or watching a show on TV every now and then, but we have other things we need to be doing with our time. Let's pursue the work of the world so that when we leave this world it will be better off for having hosted our physical existence.
