The Darker Side of Homosexuality
By Andy Heath
Homosexuality is a multifaceted characteristic and it has at least two dark sides to it. The first obviously has a sexual element to it. There are gay men (well, straight men too) that have some of the most bizarre fetishes you have ever heard of. There are men that like to see other men playing with balloons. There are men that like to spank other men, or be spanked by them. There are even men that get off on body parts other than penises such as feet, arm pits, and even noses.
Now, if you're thinking like you've been taught all your life to think, you'll probably say, eeeeeeewwww. How GROSS! That's HORRIBLE! How can anyone sexually enjoy any of those things? Logical as that response might sound, it is one of the most illogical and hypocritical responses a gay man can give to another gay men.
I've known on some level that I was gay as long as I can remember, so I know something about having my sexual interests judged. Christians especially, who don't tend to approve of anyone other than themselves, tend to look down on homosexuality. This condescension has hurt so many of us so many times. Some of us retain the emotional scars of the judgment Christians have beaten us with over the years.
So why then would we do exactly the same thing to members of our own tribe? Why would we pass judgment on someone for his aberrant sexual interests? If two consenting adults want to engage in the most bizarre sex imaginable (or even unimaginable) who am I to pass judgment on them? How difficult is it pee on someone or let them lick your feet? Really, let's be kind to one another.
So that is the second dark side of homosexuality. Even though we have been judged all our lives, we deliver that same judgment to each other. This is wrong. It is very wrong, and I call on gay people all over our country to stop passing judgment on each other. We must be accepting of each other, or else how can we expect straight people to accept us and give us the rights they currently deny us?
Jesus said, "Be ye kind one to another!" If straight people can't do that for us, let's at least do that for each other.
