Why It Is Good for Gays to Associate with Christians
By Andy Heath
At the end of the book or Mark in the Christian Bible, Jesus offers his disciples what has come to be known at The Great Commission as he floated on a cloud into Heaven. I'm not going to bother to look it up because I memorized most of it years ago, but it goes something like, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all of creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. Whoever does not believe and is not baptized will be condemned."
Touching and inspiring - especially the part where loving Jesus talks about all those people that will be condemned.
But this Great Commission is a situation where we, as gays, must fight fire with fire. As the Christians talk about how much better their ways are then those of everyone else, we must be amazing examples of love and compassion to those same Christians. You see, love and compassion are attractive qualities. They inspire people - sometimes even mean spirited people - and make them want to live their lives better.
And ultimately, no one can disguise hatred with compassion and love. People that are neither gay nor Christian can easily see the hypocrisy of this religion, and want no part of it. So by being good examples of love and compassion, we can inspire others - whether Christian or not - to our own Great Commission.
Truly go into all the world and speak words of truth and love and compassion. Help people see the folly of their ways, but do so gently. Use science and logic to improve the world. Allow others to live life as they see fit, even if you don't agree. Speak in respectful ways, and be humble when others do not wish to live their lives as you do.
